Nudie Glow is a beauty brand that is more concerned with looking after skin than covering it, so its products centre around skincare rituals. Founder Ruby Wang was inspired by a trip to Korea where she discovered K-beauty – a beauty culture centred around “functional cosmetics” that provide skincare benefits in addition to aesthetics. After finding that a K-beauty skincare routine improved her own skin, Ruby launched Nudie Glow in 2016. Her company started as a simple idea with a simple mission: to help people feel more confident in their own skin. Since its launch, Nudie Glow has quickly become Australia’s leading Korean K-beauty skincare retailer.

The Brief

Cleanliness and minimalism are central to the Nudie Glow brand, so Ruby sought e-commerce packaging that could safely deliver products while having a minimal environmental impact.

Nudie Glow’s original packaging method was a plain, unprinted white mailer box. While this did reduce packaging waste and provide a recyclable option, it did not reflect the beauty brand’s identity. Nudie Glow wanted to enhance the branding of their plain white mailer whilst maintaining a minimalist and environmentally friendly pack. The ‘gift’ mailers also needed to handle the rigors of the postal system, protect the goods inside, and fit within Australia Post limits for size and weight, all while hitting the mark from a branding perspective.

It was also important for Ruby to find the right supply partner who shared her environmental values and was able to help her enhance her brand through packaging values.

The Solution

PPI provided an environmentally friendly solution with a single colour, printed mailer. The simplicity of the printing method resulted in a 100% recyclable packaging solution. The vibrant, single colour print reflected Nudie Glow’s clean, minimalist brand identity while keeping overall production costs economical. 

Custom-printed packaging allowed Nudie Glow to feature their social media handles, encouraging online engagement with their customers and providing an enhanced unboxing experience.

Throughout the development process, PPI worked with Nudie Glow on several iterations of the packaging until the three-pack sizes were just right, meeting face-to-face with Ruby for sample reviews and approvals. After each review, we tweaked the designs and styles to ensure the solutions hit Ruby’s desired outcome.
